Master’s new service provides a professional approach to preventative maintenance programmes (PMP’s) for those customers utilising pneumatic tools in their production or maintenance facilities. It has always been important to ensure that pneumatic tools are kept in peak condition and well maintained, however, the introduction of new Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) legislation which comes into effect in July 2005 has increased this need. Master’s have found increasing demand for PMP from a growing customer base that recognises the importance of tool maintenance in reducing the risks of HAV on their employees, especially those operators directly involved in the use of pneumatic tools. Employers will be required to manage HAV effectively to ensure operators are not exposed to excessive levels of vibration. For more detailed information on the latest HAV legislation visit www.invc.co.uk.
Meister Abrasives considers that it has raised the standards of practice in the pneumatic tool maintenance industry by investing heavily in both hardware and software for it’s newly formed Pneumatic Tool Unit (PTU). The PTU is a new business centre within the Daventry facility that provides customers with state of the art tool condition analysis techniques. Master’s has developed its own in house tool condition assessment – Master Air Tool Condition Assessment Standard (MATCAS). This assessment uses complex software to review the overall tool condition of a rotary tool rather than simply checking vibration levels, thus providing data for controlled servicing and maintenance to be undertaken. This information is recorded into a comprehensive database to enable a complete history of individual tools to be developed. The MATCAS database is used as part of a systematic recall of tools for assessment and servicing.
The first step in the process for any Meister Abrasive PMP is the conducting of a comprehensive tool survey at the customer’s facility, this being offered free of charge. This process enables all tools on site to be logged and is a vital first step in the building of an individual customer tool database.
A programme can be set up for any number of tools although it is most practical and cost effective for multiple tools users. Already a high number of Master existing and new customers, including multi-national companies, have recognised the importance and need to implement a professional and traceable system for monitoring pneumatic tool maintenance.
As part of this process Meister Abrasives offer an “open book” principle to the PMP service. This means that their customers are fully aware of the following -
- Individual and full history for each individual tool
- Detailed maintenance and service records for each tool.
- Records available of each MATCAS check on each tool.
- Detailed invoicing of each service or repair, clearly detailing parts and labour.
To complement the above, on site Commercial and Applications Engineering back-up is provided to all customers to ensure that the best tools for the application are being employed, and the most effective consumables applied.
The final part of Master’s PMP package is their new training and demonstration facility in Daventry which provides customers with an opportunity to receive training on tool maintenance, see at first hand what PMP’s involve, and in addition see demonstration and practical application of the comprehensive range of surface finishing products within the Master Abrasives portfolio.
Meister Abrasives once again are raising the standards and leading the field. Make a quality decision and call them today for further information.
